Jonathan Paragliding School conducted an air permeability test on April 6, 2010. Just as you undergo regular inspections for your car, your glider must also undergo regular inspections once a year. I would like to check the age and safety status of the glider I am riding so that I can fly safely.
Below is what is the air permeability test? This is the part that explains. Your canopy must prove to be of technically adequate flight value, like a car, in case you want to resell your glider. Of course, you must give the buyer an inspection certificate (wind tunnel verification certificate). Your canopy must be inspected after the first 24 months of purchase, and then every year thereafter. If you fly a lot, we recommend checking every year after 80 hours or more. If you use your glider professionally for training purposes, or if it is a two-seater glider, you should have it wind tunnel tested every 12 months. If used without these regular maintenance inspections, the wind tunnel condition of the glider may not be guaranteed and may not comply with the DHV (now LTF) standard.
The status of sails (fabric) and lines are not checked in the same way. And, you can even replace partial or complete lines while you are flying. Why we need to do this is a very important part. You must check the condition of your glider to ensure that it can be flown safely.
We recommend that all products be inspected by a qualified professional in a wind tunnel. The condition of the canopy requires regular inspection of all components. This is your responsibility for your safety. If you want to change your glider, you must check its condition. This (wind pipe confirmation certificate) is an accurate indicator of the glider's aging condition and line condition.
Here are some basic things to check:
Air Permeability - What we measure is the amount and time that air passes through the surface of the fabric, and secondly, we inspect in more detail specific areas that may age quickly, such as the top and bottom sections.

As you can see in the photo, all gliders, especially used gliders, must check the above. This is because the condition of the canopy determines the remaining lifespan of the glider.
