Kota Kinabalu was held for 5 days from March 16 to March 20, 2009 due to the development of a gliding facility.
I visited.

Arrived around 11:30 PM on March 16th, went straight to the accommodation and briefly checked tomorrow's schedule.
I took a break.

At 10:30 a.m. on March 17th, we had a meeting with the Mayor of TAMPARULI and briefly discussed the development of the bow factory.
We talked about it and received a very positive response.

On this day, around 12:50, the take-off site was inspected and the area to the take-off site was inspected to confirm the exact development area.
We set off to the top to inspect the road.
I walked up for 40 minutes (using the hiking trail) and found that there were mountains in all directions except the northeast direction.
It was a very good glide field for takeoff and was the optimal takeoff field for development.

This is the takeoff field. This is a panoramic view of the landing pad and TAMPARULI village seen from the takeoff field.

After checking the take-off site directly, this time, to check the route using the vehicle, first check the vehicle and personnel, etc.
After confirming the basic needs, we made plans for tomorrow.
This is the landing pad.

In order to find this gliding site, I visited it several times and took a preliminary tour of the gliding site. Since it is a hot area, it is impossible to travel on foot, so traveling by car is a must, so I focused on this point.
Inspections will continue. )

I visited TAMPARULI again on March 18th. At 10 a.m., I climbed the mountain again, checking the road for vehicle traffic. We checked the ascending time and inspected road loss.
It is gentle to the 8th ridge, but after the 8th ridge, you have to walk for about 15 minutes. The width of the lost road is about 5m, and as the vehicle road continues to connect once you pass through that area, road maintenance is required.
I don't expect it to be very difficult.
If the roads are well maintained, flying will be very comfortable.

On the way up, bamboo trees are lined up on both sides to create a wonderful arch, giving a unique feel.
I gave it to you.  Because I was busy taking pictures, I don't have any pictures taken with Bruce.

From the part where the road was lost, there were two paths, and we divided into two teams to see which path was faster and easier and climbed to the top. As I was about to reach the summit, I saw rain clouds in the distance and approaching here, so I hurried on my way to the summit.
We arrived at the summit at 3pm, and as soon as we arrived, it started raining until 5pm.
We took some time to rest in a small bamboo hut that we no longer use.
When I was feeling sad about the snack I couldn't prepare, I gathered some natural pineapple and bamboo shoots nearby and roasted them over a bonfire, and they were so delicious. Perhaps it was because of hunger, or perhaps because of the infinite nature that nature provides, but I was able to spend a happy time as if I had found an oasis in the desert.

At 5 PM, the rain stopped and we descended, completing the first inspection of the TAMPARULI gliding site.
We will work hard to make it a safe gliding ground where Asians and people around the world can enjoy beautiful mountains, nature, and the sky.

TAMPARULI Glide Field
330M above sea level, take-off site conditions: Very good, provided you can use a car.
Landing site conditions: Very good (since the jurisdiction is actively seeking to attract
(Expected to be developed into a good landing pad)
Flight conditions: Ridge flight is possible as there is a long mountain ridge in the northeast, and updrafts are available.
Long-distance flights are also expected to be possible, and long-distance flights of 7km to the beach are also expected to be possible.
It is expected to be possible, and to the east is Mt. KINABALU, the highest mountain in Asia (4,100M above sea level).
Since it is located in the back part, if you use the mountains connected to the ridge, the scenery is also excellent.
It will be developed into a very unique gliding facility.
We will fly directly later and upload the detailed flight route.

On March 19th, we took a short break with the teams who were tired from the forced march every day.
In the meantime (about 2 months from the start of ground training, about 15 days if you consider the actual flight time)
Only ground training was practiced rigorously. (Instructor Bruce) Evaluates ground training,
If it passes the evaluation, it was tested at a ground training center with plans to make its first flight.
Trainees RICHARD and WALTER
The test results confirmed that it was very good.
We informed them that we had passed the test, promised our first flight tomorrow, and completed today's schedule.

March 20th is the day I return to Korea in the afternoon.
We were supposed to meet at 10 a.m., but I was so nervous and excited... the two trainees visited my dorm at 8 a.m.  I couldn't sleep all night because the food I ate the night before was bad.
Apologize, take medicine, rest until lunch,
We moved to the 100 Hill training site for the first flight, which the trainees were eagerly awaiting.
Until yesterday the weather was unsuitable for flying, but today it was really nice.
The nervous excitement created some tension, and the trainees had their first flight in good spirits.

RICHARD and WALTER's first flight also went through a flight training process that was as good as ground training.

They will visit Korea in May and complete the PRO2 course at the Jonathan Paragliding Pyeongchang Training Center.  Seeing them having fun and cheering as they promise to continue their wonderful flight,
At the end of a happy day, we returned to Korea, leaving behind their cheers.

Conclusion: A glide field with good conditions is one of the important factors that makes safe flight easier. Of course, there are many good gliding sites in Korea as well. However, the downside is that it is too cold in the winter, so your body and
It prevents the mind from actively taking flight. I dream of a world-class gliding site that can compensate for these shortcomings. I want to share the feeling of happiness that comes from flying with people around the world.
